Aziza is a 30 year old widow with five children. Her husband died from cancer three years ago and left her to provide for her five children. What little money she had saved went to pay for her husband's funeral costs. Though she had inherited some land from her husband, her in-laws took that from her after the funeral. Thus she was left without any money or means to support herself…

Hamida

Hamida is 45 years old and is a returnee refugee from Pakistan with her 6 children and husband. She left Afghanistan during the factional fighting and lived in very bad condition. She returned to Afghanistan two years ago penniless and one day her son saw the PARWAZ sign and she applied for a loan. Her husband cannot work and does not help her due to his ill health…

Nasima

Nasima is 42 years old with 6 children. She bears all the responsibility for her home since her husband is ill and cannot work. She left Kabul with her family during the reign of mujahadeen after she lost her father, brother and uncle to the war. In addition, her 6 year old daughter developed mental illness after the trauma of the rockets being fired daily in Kabul. The mujahadeen burned their home, belongings and land. She worked as a tailor in Pakistan to provide for her family. She returned to Kabul after Taliban and at times didn't even have enough food to feed her family and went to bed hungry…

Qudsia

Qudsia's is 20 years old and she is the oldest of six siblings after she lost her eldest brother to rocket attacks during the reign of mujahadeen. Her father died when she was just 3 years old. She finished high school in Peshawar after migrating there when the Taliban were in power. Because women were not allowed to work and she was the sole provider for her family, she made the decision to leave Afghanistan for Pakistan and sneaked out her family in the middle of the night…

Sonia

Sonia is 19 and she lost her father when she was 1 years old. She feels she has been very unfortunate in her life.She became a carpet weaver at age 8 and could not attend school. She was taken away from her mother at a young age and was brought up by her uncles.After much emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her uncles, where she was kept hungry and imprisoned in a small room, her uncle's family migrated to Pakistan. There, her uncle commissioned her to work with carpet weavers at age 8 and kept the money for himself…

Shikaiba

Shikaiba is 29 years old with two children. Even though she lives in utter poverty, Shikaiba adopted a little girl recently and that is why she has taken out a loan to start a micro business. Her husband's income was not enough to support feeding the new child. She returned to Afghanistan 2 years ago from Pakistan and is currently living in a rented home…
